Avoca Museums & Historical Society, Altavista, Va | Jerome & Gwen's Wedding

At times the world may seem an unfriendly and sinister place, but believe that there is much more good in it than bad. All you have to do is look hard enough, and what might seem to be a series of unfortunate events may in fact be the first steps of a journey.
— Lemony Snicket

That quote fits Gwen and Jerome's back story perfectly in many ways. But right now, their back story isn't what we want to tell. Suffice to say, a long journey has brought them together at long last, and their love for each other is a love that shouts from the rooftops and overflows into everyone around them. At our restaurant, Main Street Cafe & Coffee, we have this thing called #HumansofMainStreet (yes, we stole it from Humans of New York, shhhh don't tell him) where we tell a little bit about our customers' story. They're a lot of fun! Here is an excerpt of our interview with Gwen and Jerome a few months back.

- How did you meet?

Gwen: Do you want to tell her or you want me to do it?

Jerome: You go ahead and I’ll correct any details that I perceive are wrong.

Gwen: We have mutual friends. One in particular, Nancy, who is a very good friend still to this day, was throwing an event at her house. We both came separately. It was just a big group of people who all got along great and we are mostly all still friends today. When we started going places together - and I mean we weren’t even officially dating, we were just two friends hanging out - and we would go out and people would go, “Oh, this is good! We like the two of you together!” We would go, “Okay... that’s cute.” So one thing lead to another and it just seemed to work out.

When we first got together, he discovered I was a mountain biker, loved being out in the woods on mountain bikes, and he was like, “Me too, I just haven’t ridden in years.” And we loved to camp. He was like, “Well, I have all this camping gear that I’ve never used.” All these things were things that we didn’t know about each other. Then together we discovered the music festivals. We LOVE going to live music. So, it’s just kind of awesome. This is what best friends getting married is all about.

Apart, they are two wonderful people. Together, they are an amazing couple. And their wedding day was nothing short of everything they are, all bundled up into one amazing event. It was hosted at Avoca Museums & Historical Society, in Altavista, VA - and, get this, the ceremony was right in the middle of their Craft Beer Festival! So much history has already been lived out in this beautiful old mansion and it was only fitting that these two local trailblazers would be making history here, too.

The cake and cupcakes were made by the ah-mazing Angela Hudson Cakes! The cake was a tent with two rowdy "Happy Campers" and the cupcakes were infused with Jerome's very own Kvasir Meadworks Mead!

The gorgeous wildflower bouquet was provided by Terri at Airabella Flowers

Terri also made Jerome's bowtie out of molted feathers from their parrot, Beethoven! Those feathers were also an accent on Gwen's hat.
