Omar’s heart was pounding five beats for every step the bridesmaids took forward. He clenched his jaw to keep from trembling. It didn’t work. Then came the flower girl. As the rose petals fell to the ground, it was everything he could do to keep his knees from also hitting the ground.

The heavy doors swung open, and there was Kara. Her strapless lace wedding dress cascaded around her. At the sight of her, Harry, Omar’s childhood best friend and now his best man, grabbed Omar’s arm and held him up.

Her father stood on her right side and mother on her left. There was nothing that could have wiped the joy from either of their faces. This was the moment they had been waiting so long for. This was the moment that they weren't sure would be able to happen because of a pandemic. The moment of their daughter’s covenant.

Kara finally reached the top of the steps with Omar. Pastor Ron had a huge smile on his face. He whispered to them so the mic wouldn’t catch it, "Just breathe." They composed themselves as best they could, and the ceremony began - but it felt more like a worship service than a wedding. Songs of worship, hymns in both English and Spanish, filled the rafters and drowned out the howling tropical storm winds outside.

They began their marriage by serving each other the bread and the wine. But what stood out to us the most was what came next - they washed each other’s feet. It was a perfect picture of who we've learned Kara and Omar to be: True servants. Their joy and hospitality and love are all things that just exude from their innermost being. It is who they are. It was even seen in something as simple as being sure to greet each and every one of their guests and to dance with each of them on the dance floor. It was the type of hospitality that his family is famous for. To be their friend is to be welcomed into their familia.

Pastor Ron encouraged them to find a place they could serve together, a mission that will strengthen their marriage. We whole heartedly agree. The two of them are far more powerful together, and they will be able to accomplish a hundredfold more now than they could could even imagine doing alone.

Omar and Kara, it was such an honor and a joy to witness your union. It feels like we've been friends forever - from the second we officially met at Bolay for dinner before your engagement session - and we have no doubt that that's how every person who comes into your presence feels.

We couldn't be more excited for you! You handled everything that was thrown at you, as you planned before the wedding and even the things that didn't go as planned on the day of, with so much grace and joy. We know that you will be able to handle everything that comes during this crazy life. You both are SO loved and you have a ton of people cheering you on. The Lord has something incredible for you two! We love you and hope you enjoy your Disney honeymoon!!
